Opinion: Bus Hostage-Taking by A Dismissed Policeman

As quoted from Yahoo News by Jim Gomez:

“MANILA, Philippines – A 12-hour hostage stand-off on a hijacked Philippine bus ended in bloodshed Monday, with officials saying at least seven Chinese tourists were dead along with the disgruntled ex-policeman who seized their vehicle in a bid to get his job back.

The crisis began when the dismissed policeman, Rolando Mendoza, 55, armed with a M16 rifle seized the busload of Hongkong tourists to demand his reinstatement in the force.

According to newspaper reports from 2008, he was among five officers who had been charged with robbery, extortion and grave threats after a Manila hotel chef filed a complaint alleging the policemen falsely accused him of using drugs to extort money.”

This is only my own opinion based on my understanding for what had happened after reading the whole story from Yahoo News.

Rolando Mendoza, a dismissed policeman is 55 years old. I think Rolando Mendoza is due for retirement based on his age. The age limit for retirement in the Philippines is 60 years old. Perhaps, he served the government police force more or less than 30 years in service. Whoever is dismissed from his job with less or more than 30 years in service will be unable to get his benefits. It means zero benefits.

I think that’s the reason why he decided to do a wrong decision to hijack a tourist bus. His decision for reinstatement was wrong that cost his life and life of the hostages. From what I know, after a year, he can file a reinstatement within the police force. When a policeman is reinstated, he can now file for retirement benefits within due process for the grievance of his case.

Again, this is only my own opinion and understanding.

What Is A Cougar?

I have never heard of this before until I have a chat in one dating sites. I am not looking but only chatting. To be honest, I told this foreign guy that I am living with a partner who is younger than me. Suddenly, he laughed and told me that, “Oh, you’re a cougar!”. The word is foreign, so I asked what it was. He told me that it’s a word for older women who are looking for younger men. That guy had irritated me for he kept on laughing.

I instantly searched for the word, “cougar”. Mr. Wikipedia wrote that a cougar is a puma, a mountain cat or a panther. It’s a solitary cat that stalks and ambushes its wide variety of prey. A male cougar hunts while a female cougar stays with her kittens for two years. But then I saw another meaning with Mr. Wikipedia. This time, it’s not under the word cougar, it’s about “Age disparity in Sexual Relationships”. From it, I read that:

“cougar is a slang word for a woman, 40 years of age or older, who pursues younger men, typically more than eight years her junior. The term is also commonly applied to women that are thirty or older. The origin of the word is debated; however, it is thought to have first appeared in print on the Canadian dating website Cougardate.com and has been used in TV series, advertising and film. The 2007 film Cougar Club was dedicated to the subject and in Spring 2009 TV Land aired a reality show called The Cougar. The sitcom Cougar Town explores the difficulty and stigma of many so-called "Cougars".
 Now back to the guy, I’m chatting with: I told him, my understanding of a cougar is an older woman who frequents to bars and look for younger men. They are also financially stable and have its riches. How can I be related to a cougar? First of all:
  1. I am not a frequent bar visitor;
  2. I am unemployed;
  3. I am not financially stable, either;
  4. I have only one and same younger man who has a job;
  5. He was the one who bought the necessary things needed for both of us;
So, how can I be a cougar? So, I said, "I think you met a lot of older women who prefers younger men. You liked them but turned their back away from you because of  it." How can you meet a sane woman if you act that way? Your poor ego speaks.

Anyway, if there's a cougar or none, what does it make with our own life? Each one of us has it's own fault. As an adult, we have no right to pinpoint our finger on them. It's their life they lead. For the parents, of course, they do whatever they can to protect their children.

meme
1. Where were you the last time that someone welcomed you back?
     yahoo messenger, chatting.

2. Tell us who is you favorite non-family member to hang out with?
    This question made me think hard, I did not go out lately after moving out from a boarding house almost a year ago. Most of the time, I face the computer and chat with some friends who are online in an internet shop. So, those are the people I hang-out most of the time: online friends and clients in an internet shop.

3. What was the last thing that happened to anger you?
      When he denied and lied about the truth I saw/heard about him and the lady.

4. What was the last thing that you saw that was shocking to see?
    a dead man lying in the emergency room when I passed by

5. What is your favorite thing to do on Saturday besides Saturday 9?
    Going out with my boyfriend but it was changed because he has no reliever yet.

6. Have you had your summer vacation yet? If yes tell us about it. No

7. Pick out one of your cousins and tell us about them.
    Jellah, she's the only one relative whom I always talked online. A mother of 3 girls, homemaker and a fashionista. Oh, she's very thrifty... hehe

8. Do you have any special plans for next week? none

9. At what age will you consider yourself old and why?
   50 years old. It's 12 more years to go and I am not sure where I'll be on that age. Will I still be here, blogging or in another place without computer. That's why I make the most of it while I am still here amid what they were talking against me.

My Journey in The Blogosphere

This is always the thing that describes me: create an account and leave it behind. Oh no, not the messy things! I was referring to creating my first blog platform – Live Journal. It was created as a very personal diary. It is alive but not updated. I just leave it – stagnant. 2nd is the Multiply platform in which I have two accounts; One is a link to online resellers and suppliers while the second one is a personal diary. But then, I decided to delete the second and integrate some of the posts I’ve written there in blogger. So, I can focus only to one personal diary.

Writing in a different blogging platform is my only means to let go all my emotions and unload burdens. I did not think of it as a way to earn; I did not think of it that one day, it’ll help me with the tool in my life.

The new journey began in Manila for the second time: I face it alone and it was all negative, though. Job applications turned negative results, money was draining in my pockets and I end up washing clothes of my boarding housemates to put food right into my tummy. One online friend told me about family’s support because I was desperate to have a job. I didn’t respond but smile sourly. I wish, there was a family support, but there is NONE.
